Guided Missile Flags
|
This map is called GMWAR for a reason. It has lots of GM flags.
|
GMs can be locked after firing, turn sharp, and don't arm for half a second after
fired. Drop them for close in firing. The lock lasts until you do fire and then
allows repeat firing for several seconds before the lock is lost. You can lock
a long time before firing. If you lock after firing the missile will change directions to
wherever your new lock is. You can be hiding behind something, fire the missile out into
the open, turn quickly to point to your target and then lock. Now your missile will take
the turn toward your target (thus going around whatever you are hiding behind) and strike.
|
On this server GMs turn sharper than default. This makes them really hard to
avoid. The best way to avoid a GM is to be out of range or behind a solid object.
This picture demonstrates locking after firing.
|
|
Taking advantage of this, you can be up on top of a building or platform (diagonal)
and fire so the GM goes out over the edge of the roof or floor you are sitting on, then you lock, causing
the GM to turn downwards toward your target. This is a very effective way to make kills without being
at risk of return GM-fire. This is also effective after a jump for hitting targets on the other side
of low obstructions (like the wide teleporters you find in the big field).
|
|
A quick and useful tactic is to lock on the tank in advance, then point so the path of
the GM will clear the obstruction, then fire as demonstrated in these four frames:
|
|
Some walls and floors are intentionally thin so sitting on them or leaning on
them puts you at risk. Jumping above the floor sometimes helps avoid shots from below. This is true
on the crane, the bridge, and the high platform.
|
There are > 50 GM flags on this map. There are usually half a dozen in the
northwest room, more in the
big field northeast, southeast, and northwest, and then a few
on gallery G1 near the east end. There
are never supposed to be any GMs on tops of buildings unless recently dropped by another tank.
