Amherst has five school buildings. The Brick School House downtown
was once the only school building in Amherst, having been built just after the Civil War.
One of our friends graduated high school from the Brick School. The Brick
school is pictured on the downtown tour 2
page. The Brick School is no longer used for classrooms but there are still
administration offices there.
The other four buildings are more modern, the newest being the high school which was
completed in the early 90s.
The High School and Middle School are on adjacent properties in the south end of town
about 3 miles from the historic district.. The Wilkins and Clark elementary schools
are near each other a few hundred feet north of downtown.
